Study Series 15 Lesson 2: This purpose of this lesson is not to try and explain the multitude of signs and symbols of Revelation (we will look more deeply into this starting in Study Series 16 Lesson 1). However, what we aim to do in this Study Series Lesson is to lay some of the groundwork necessary for a proper understanding of those things. If we are going to study into some major subjects like those listed in the title of this lesson it is necessary that we understand some important fundamentals and basic guidelines for interpreting the book of Revelation. The book opens like this:
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants – things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John” (Rev. 1:1).
The proper title for the book of Revelation is really found in these opening words, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ.” To most Christians the book is full of dark mystery and a source of great confusion. For many preachers and prophets, it is the source of many false prophecies! However, it is called “Revelation” because it is as it says – a “revealing” of God’s plans and purposes for those to whom it was written in the first century.
God the Father gave this message to Jesus, and Jesus was not hiding anything from His servants but instead He was showing, revealing, and disclosing to THEM things He wanted THEM to read, hear, obey, and keep! We must keep these things in our minds as we study this book! It was not written to you and me, but to THEM!
This lesson covers a vast array of Old and New Testament passage allowing verses to interpret other verses on these very important topics, and I think it will be of great benefit and blessing in bringing us another step closer to being fully prepared for our full study into Revelation starting in Study Series 16 Lesson 1.
