Remember what John is seeing in this verse –> he is seeing the “heavenly” city. He is seeing life in that city among all the saints who live with God in the heavenly Jerusalem and he says, “there is no curse” there. The curse of the “law of sin and death” (you sin and you shall die – separated forever in the Lake of Fire) brought upon man from back in the garden with the sin of Adam is gone forever from that heavenly city. Those saints who dwell in heaven with God will never die or be separated from Him ever again. They live forevermore in the full heavenly blessings.
While John is seeing life in the heavenly city, those blessings are not without effect on believers still alive here on earth. While we believers still have to physically die some day à because of the atoning death of Christ we will never experience the “second death.” We “now” have eternal life! (John 5:24, 6:47; 1 John 3:14, 5:11-13; 2 Cor. 1:10; Col. 2:11-13; Eph. 2:1, 5; 2 Tim. 1:10).
When we take our last breath in this earthly life we step immediately into our new immortal perfect spiritual bodies the Lord has reserved for us (2 Cor. 5:1-2) and go immediately into His presence to “see His face” and to forever live with and serve Him, along with all those who are already in the heavenly city. We shall reign with Him forever with whatever wonders that will include! Until then, we as His servants, serve Him here in this life.
